Tara Joe the Young Mothers Programme Coordinator speaks about choices being made by participants.
When I asked Jasmine why she wanted to do a course, she gave me two answers – “To get out of the house AND to learn something new!” Good answer! Some of our past young mums have decided to move on to the other courses Te Waipuna Puawai hold in our Ellerslie Centre.Jasmine Vili is going to be completing the computer studies course over term 2 and Amanda Pakoti is going to be focusing on her first paper towards her MIT Foundation Studies Certificate – Academic Writing and Studying.
Amanda replied to my same question with this; “Well, there were two reasons, staying at home was doing my BRAIN in and I wanted to do something but also, it was a chance to get Leasharnia into a childcare so she can be with other kids”. Another great answer!
For whatever reason, these two young mums have decided to take that next step into furthering their education in their own way at Te Waipuna Puawai. We all know how hard it is to juggle baby needs with being a student, but at Te Waipuna Puawai, transport is provided to get to course and children can be enrolled into Nga Purapura Puawai – a childcare centre that’s a part of Te Waipuna Puawai! As far as courses go, that’s pretty fantastic!
Other young mums that were a part of The Young Mums Support Programme who have moved on up to other courses at Te Waipuna Puawai over this year are; Charleen King Stevens, Kitty Chan and Zana Spiers – who are also completing papers towards their Foundation Certificates through MIT, and Tina Leafa who completed an Arts Course. No matter what level or type of course you are completing or you want to get into, remember that what ever you achieve is awesome!
No one knows better how hard it is to juggle motherhood and being a student like other mothers.
